This delightful canine is the result of crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a Poodle. Breeders aimed to create an easy-to-maintain, low-shedding companion, particularly suitable for allergy sufferers. Also known as Cavadoodles in America, the breed quickly gained immense global popularity due to inheriting the loyal, relaxed, and family-friendly temperaments directly from its well-regarded parent breeds. ### Personality The Cavapoo is celebrated for its incredibly loving, calm, and family-friendly temperament. These puppies are known for their very likable and pleasant personalities, which makes them excellent companions. They deeply enjoy being around their human companions and quickly form strong, loyal bonds, which is a major reason for their widespread popularity today. They are typically laid-back and adaptable, fitting seamlessly into various family dynamics. ### Appearance The Cavapoo's appearance is quite varied and charming. Their coat tends to be soft, fluffy, or curly, and they are generally born with a low-shedding quality, a desirable trait for many. These delightful dogs come in a wide array of colors, including apricot, tan, red, white, and black. You can also find them in bi-color (two colors) and even tri-color combinations. While most Cavapoo puppies typically have wavy or curly coats, a small percentage may exhibit straighter coats. ### Care Cavapoos thrive with consistent care, particularly concerning their diet and hygiene. Given their active nature and need to burn off energy, they require a healthy, high-quality dry kibble diet. The precise amount of food should be tailored to their individual weight, age, and activity level, ensuring a proper ratio of meat-based protein, micronutrients, healthy carbs, and fats. Most recommend feeding them two meals per day, spaced about twelve hours apart, to ensure they receive adequate nutrients. Crucially, proper dental care is vital, with teeth needing to be cleaned a minimum of three times a week to prevent health issues. While teeth cleaning may take practice initially, it becomes easier over time for both the owner and the pup. ### Life Expectancy - The Cavapoo grows to be between nine and fourteen inches tall. - At maturity, the Cavapoo weighs between nine and twenty-five pounds. - The average life expectancy for a Cavapoo is between twelve and fifteen years. ### Breed Facts **Fact:** The Cavapoo was first bred in Australia in the 1990s. **Fact:** This breed was bred by a breeder who was looking for a puppy that would allow those who suffer from allergies to have a dog.
